Policy Goal:
To improve the way non-industrial private forest lands in eastern Kentucky are managed.

Issue:
Ninety-three percent of Kentucky's 12.7 million acres of forest land is privately owned. MACED maintains that if these forests are managed properly, they can provide multiple economic and ecologic benefits including: income from sustained yield harvesting, wildlife habitat, recreational opportunities, water quality, source water protection and aesthetic beauty.   But there are real barriers to good forest management, particularly for forest land owners in eastern Kentucky.

Goals:

  1. To shape eastern Kentucky landowners', communities' and state policy makers' views of forests as long-term assets that can provide both economic and ecological benefits for the long term.
  2. To improve the way non-industrial private forest lands in eastern Kentucky are managed.
