Rural Action

Policy Goal:
Create policies that ensure that the poaching of ginseng is not a barrier to private landowners who are currently growing or are wishing to grow this product.

Issue:
Rural Action is embarking on a policy development project with three main goals to ensure that ginseng poaching no longer presents a barrier to private landowners currently growing or aspiring to grow ginseng:

Goals:
Phase 1 Goal: Develop a stricter and more enforceable ginseng poaching law in Ohio that utilizes revenue generated from ginseng harvesting permits to pay for law enforcement efforts.

Phase 2 Goal: Ensure that agency and law enforcement personnel have access to the information and resources necessary to effectively enforce ginseng poaching laws.

Phase 3 Goal: Ginseng harvesters and buyers appreciate the new law and understand the option of ginseng cultivation as a means to acquire ginseng for market.
