Ride Through Time Bike Tour

OctoberOct 12 2019 12:15pm - 04:30pm UTC

Cyclists will pedal into the past on Oct. 12 during the 18.5 mile “Ride Through Time” bike tour, which will take them through several Appalachian coal mining towns in an event benefiting the nonprofit Little Cities of Black Diamonds.

Participants will meet at 12:15 p.m. at the Tecumseh Commons/Tecumseh Theater, 116 Main St. Shawnee, with the tour beginning at 12:30. From there, they’ll pedal through Murray City and New Straitsville before returning to Shawnee. There will be two stops along the way: one at Snow Fork Creek in Murray City for natural interpretation and a water quality discussion; the other will be in New Straitsville to discuss the history of the coal mines. About half of the ride will be on gravel roads.

The tour, held in conjunction with Little Cities of Black Diamonds Days, will end at about 4:30 in Shawnee and is sponsored by Rural Action and Little Cities of Black Diamonds.

Participants will be asked for donations to Little Cities of Black Diamonds, which works to keep alive the past stories and traditions of the Little Cities of Black Diamonds Region.

To register or request more information, email Madison at madison@ruralaction.org. It also will be possible to register the day of the event.
