Ecological restoration WORKING GROUP (ERWG)
The CAN Ecological Restoration Working Group brings together practitioners, organizations, and community partners across Central Appalachia to strengthen and expand ecological restoration efforts. The group focuses on sharing knowledge and building regional capacity around practices that heal land and water while supporting local livelihoods.

EWG’S GUIDING GOALS
- Promote ecological restoration as a community‑driven economic strategy, especially in areas impacted by legacy mining and other environmental degradation.
- Support collaboration across organizations and states, helping partners learn from one another and align efforts where it makes sense.
- Advance best practices in restoration, including reforestation, sustainable forestry, watershed restoration, and other nature‑based solutions.
- Build a stronger regional network of practitioners, ensuring that restoration work benefits local people, supports emerging markets, and contributes to long‑term community resilience.
- Create space for shared problem‑solving, resource exchange, and collective planning around restoration challenges and opportunities in Central Appalachia.
